BVU Delivers Seminars that Train Business Leaders for Participation on Nonprofit Boards

Highlights:

  • Multi-layered pricing available for event registrants
  • Consistent BVU branding across all Ennect tools

Business Volunteers Unlimited (BVU) plays an important role in strengthening nonprofit organizations in the northeast Ohio region. Since 1993, the organization has provided services that link businesses to nonprofits, strengthen the governance and leadership of the region's nonprofit sector, and engage thousands of volunteers in meaningful service.

Seminars play an important role in helping BVU train volunteer board members and staff on relevant governance and management issues. As the number of seminars grew to more than 25 a year, registering thousands of attendees became very time-intensive with the process BVU was using: sending emails with PDF attachments that registrants had to download, print out, then physically mail back along with a written check.

When BVU went looking for an online event registration and marketing tool that fit their needs and their budget, they found Ennect Event and a few other Ennect tools, including Ennect Mail and Survey.

Ennect Event Improves Customer Satisfaction

"Customers were asking for online registration. They wanted an easy way to pay by credit card," explained Melanie Meyer, director, communications and technology, at BVU. "So, when we started using Ennect Event, customer satisfaction went through the roof. In fact, now, very few of our attendees actually ask to pay by check."

"While seminars are just one facet of many services that BVU offers, they're an important program for our members," adds Claire Kotkowski, coordinator, educational programs. "We offer more than 25 seminars and several of them are popular enough to repeat on a regular basis. Ennect Event makes it easy for us to copy, make the necessary changes, and then reuse content when we schedule recurring events. Setting up Event initially is easy, too. It's simple to set up the web-based program graphics and content, and we can quickly customize fields on the registration form to capture the information we need."

Attendance at BVU's seminars averages 60 participants per program with some, like the popular "Role of the Board" which is scheduled four times a year, attracting up to 100 registrants per session, according to Meyer.

Integration of Ennct Tools is a Plus

"What we really love about the Ennect tools is that they're all interconnected. Not only do they share access to the same mail list database, but because we can tailor them, we can give them all a consistent look and feel. So, no matter what we're sending out—a mailing, an event registration promotion, or a follow-up survey—they can all have the same 'tied-together' look," says Meyer.

"We also like the fact that Ennect Event allows us to offer multiple pricing levels for members and non-members, as well as offer event series pricing, which lowers the cost per event for those who attend multiple seminars during the year," explains Kotkowski.

Additionally, Ennect's reporting tools allow BVU to track their event invitations, surveys, and a new monthly newsletter currently being developed. Ennect reports on opens, bounces, links that recipients click on, and opt-outs, as well as provides multiple ways to view survey responses. As a result, BVU can quickly see what actions people are taking or not, and rapidly develop a response.

Nearly 20 years ago, BVU's founders had the vision to create a vehicle to engage the next generation of business leaders on nonprofit boards. Today Ennect provides a tool that helps BVU do just that.
